John Landin - Head Director
John Landin graduated from McMurry University in the Spring of 2009. He began his career as the music teacher for Jayton-Girard ISD that Fall. John taught Prek-12th at Jayton for his first four years of teaching. While at Jayton Mr. Landin improved their marching band ratings, had multiple students make the region band, and had students compete at the State Solo and Ensemble contest. Mr Landin received Jayton’s teacher of the year award in 2009.
John married his college sweetheart Kira Lynn Good in 2011 whom he met while attending McMurry. They moved to Coahoma when they had their first child Angelica Ruth Landin in 2013. John continued his career as the director of bands at Coahoma ISD from 2013-2019. While at Coahoma, John led his band to multiple sweepstakes awards in JH and HS contests and led their marching band to multiple Area contests. The Coahoma band program enjoyed an increase of fifty percent in their participation numbers while Mr. Landin was their director. Individual student achievements include many Region, Area and All-State band placements, and State Solo & Ensemble qualifiers and medal winners. Mr. Landin received Coahoma High School’s Scholar Teacher of the Year award in 2014, and received the district's Teacher of the Year award in 2016.
John and Kira had their second child Norah Louise Landin in 2019 when John accepted the head band director position in Big Spring ISD. While at Big Spring, John’s bands achieved Sweepstakes awards, individual Region/Area/and State band placements, as well as a first place finish at the Area A Marching band contest which landed the program’s 6th appearance at the State Marching Band Championships in San Antonio.
John currently resides in Abilene, TX where he serves as the Director of Bands at Abilene Cooper High School. Mr. Landin enjoys playing trombone and spending time with his family. John looks forward to continuing to reconnect with the city and university that made his life possible.

Patrick Stevenson - Associate Director of Bands/Percussion Coordinator
Mr. Patrick Allen Stevenson is currently in his 16th year serving as Associate Director of Bands/Percussion Coordinator for the Awesome Cooper Band where he instructs the Concert Band, Drumline, Indoor Drumline, and Percussion Ensembles. He is also an accomplished arranger, arranging the 2018 Cooper Marching show, Indoor Drumline shows, various movements and music for the percussion section for shows over the past 6 years, including the 2019 marching show. In 2017, Mr. Stevenson was named a Cooper High School TLC Teacher of the Year. He is extremely proud of the accomplishments of his students, who consistently excel in their performances and abilities resulting in an increase of superior ratings and section membership.
Mr. Stevenson received his Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Oklahoma State University, where he was a member of and student instructor with the Cowboy Marching Band. He also was an active member of the percussion ensemble and on two occasions competed with the drumline at PASIC. During his time at OSU, he was also a member of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corp, competing around the country and at World Championships in Madison, Wisconsin 2002. Mr. Stevenson also holds a Master of Music from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, specializing in world music. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, the Percussive Arts Society, and Theta Chi Fraternity.
In addition to his duties at Cooper, Mr. Stevenson teaches percussion at summer band camp at McMurry University. He also teaches privately with the AISD Supplemental Music Lesson Program.
Mr. Stevenson is also an accomplished performer serving as a member of and guest with various symphony and chamber orchestras. He has performed with numerous groups and individuals over the years, including performances at the Grand Ole Opry, Revolutions Strings, Key City Percussion, and with Larry Gatlin.
Mr. Stevenson and his wife Melissa recently celebrated their 19th anniversary. They have two children, son Collin and daughter Dorothy. Mr. Stevenson enjoys cycling and spending time with his family.
